General Questions
What’s the purpose of an anti-fouling system?
EcoGlide is your boat’s personal defense system against unwanted marine growth. It forms a barrier on the hull that stops organisms like algae, barnacles, and mussels from attaching — think of it as your first line of defense against biofouling.
Without it, your boat could turn into a floating shellfish buffet — heavier, slower, and more expensive to run. To keep your vessel in top shape and gliding through the water efficiently, an anti-fouling system is essential.
EcoGlide is a smart surface that stays clean — no scraping, no painting.
Why should I ditch traditional bottom paint?
Soon, your old bottom paint will be nothing more than a faded memory from a time when we thought it was okay to pour toxins into the ocean. The European Maritime Safety Agency and the new Biocidal Products Regulation are already cracking down on your old, toxic companion.
But hey — why wait for the law to catch up when you can lead the change and become an environmental hero?
Think of it as a modern upgrade for your boat. One that saves you from harsh chemicals on your skin, in your eyes — and the wrath of shouting Greta Thunberg fans. Traditional bottom paint is on its way out, and if you're not quicker than a speedboat, your vessel might become a fossil in a sea of banned products.
So jump aboard the future — and choose a solution that won’t turn your beautiful boat into a floating chemical scandal.
How does this anti-fouling system work?
Get ready to make some serious waves with EcoGlide Shark Scales — because these aren’t just stylish; they’re your boat’s ultimate performance upgrade. Inspired by nature’s slickest predator, the Shark Scale surface slices through water like butter, giving your boat that “VIP lane” feel. It's not just fast — it's fierce.
The magic? It’s all in the material. EcoGlide Shark Scales are made from Polyisobutylene (PIB) — a surface so impenetrable, marine growth doesn’t stand a chance. No biofouling, no toxins, no compromises. Just a clean hull and a clear conscience.
And if you’re wondering about durability, let’s just say PIB made its name sticking to German U-boats — and was still intact 60 years after one sank. That’s what we call a long-term investment. Oh, and that sleek copper finish? Extra anti-fouling power, zero nasty leakage into the ocean.
EcoGlide: serious tech, serious performance, zero guilt.
What kind of surfaces can EcoGlide stick to?
EcoGlide Shark Scales are engineered to bond to (almost) any surface. With our recycled primer, they grip tightly to a wide range of hull materials — from fiberglass and steel to aluminum and beyond.
When the activator is applied, it triggers a reaction that softens the PIB, creating a tacky, flexible base. The scales are then layered onto the hull — overlapping like real shark skin — forming a tough, hydrodynamic surface that hugs your boat.
They don’t smear like paint or leave streaks — they look like scales and act like armor.
How do I remove old bottom paint?
Ready to give your boat a makeover? Removing bottom paint might not be quite as thrilling as a day on the water — more like getting your teeth cleaned — but with the right tools and a few pro tips, it can feel like a breeze.
Step one: Time to suit up — safety goggles on, gloves ready, and let the transformation begin. Check your hull. If it looks like it's wearing a layer of crusty old shoe sponge, it’s go-time.
Step two: Grab a tough scraper and a heavy-duty vacuum to suck up the worst of the mess. Your boat will already start to feel better. Once the main gunk is off, it’s time to give the hull a good scrub.
Step 3: Remove any leftover paint with warm water and mild soap — give it a spa day, basically.
When your boat is clean enough to reflect your proud face in the hull, let it dry completely. Then, do a light sanding to prep the surface for its fresh new chapter.
Next stop: shine, speed, and smooth sailing.
Is EcoGlide’s anti-fouling system harmful to the environment?
Not at all — EcoGlide is designed to protect your boat and the ocean.
Unlike traditional bottom paints that rely on toxic biocides and heavy metals, EcoGlide uses a physical, non-toxic barrier to prevent biofouling. Its surface is made from polyisobutylene (PIB), a durable and chemically stable material that doesn’t leach harmful substances into the water.
In fact, the same PIB technology is used in environmentally approved commercial applications — including offshore platforms — where strict marine protection standards apply. We’ve simply adapted it into a shark-scale design that improves hydrodynamics and makes it accessible for private boat owners.
So yes — EcoGlide is safe for marine life, contributes zero toxins to the water, and helps you sail clean without compromising performance or the planet.
Can I install EcoGlide myself, or do I need a professional?
You can install EcoGlide yourself — but we recommend getting help from a professional for the best results. It’s a detailed process, and an expert can make sure everything sticks (literally and figuratively).
Want to go the DIY route? No problem — just email one of our specialists for guidance. We’ll help you avoid common pitfalls and get it right the first time.
Why isn’t your copper finish harmful to marine life?
Unlike traditional antifouling paints, our copper finish is non-ablative — meaning it doesn’t release high amounts of copper into the water. Instead, it’s designed for controlled, ultra-slow release, keeping copper levels well below toxicity thresholds for most marine organisms.
Copper is a naturally occurring element in oceans and waterways, and marine life is generally adapted to low background levels. Our system mimics those natural conditions, minimizing environmental impact while still adding an extra layer of fouling resistance.
